Arm Surgery in Mexico City
There are two paths, and it is not always the one with the scar. If your laxity is mild or moderate, there is an option without a lift.
What it is and how it works
a sagging arm is rarely just fat, there is almost always skin laxity too. That is why liposuction alone can leave your arm laxer. We have two approaches depending on how much excess skin you have. If laxity is mild to moderate, we perform liposuction and in the same procedure tighten the skin from beneath with subdermal radiofrequency, using QuantumRF: a fine cannula enters under the skin and delivers energy to the plane where the septa and fascia are, which contract with controlled heat. No long scar. If the excess skin is significant, the solution is brachioplasty, which removes skin with a scar running along the inner arm.
What it treats, in detail
- Localized arm fat that does not respond to exercise.
- Lax or “hanging” skin on the inner arm.
- Arms after significant weight loss.
- Laxity extending toward the armpit or lateral chest.
- Discomfort or chafing from excess skin.
How we do it here
the first step is measuring how much skin you actually have in excess, standing with the arm abducted, because everything depends on that. If your case allows it, we will propose the scar-free option first, even though it is a lower-priced procedure. In a series using this technology, arm circumference decreased by an average of 3.75 centimeters at 6 months, patient satisfaction rose from 35% to 87%, and no case required conversion to brachioplasty. And if your laxity requires surgery, we tell you with the same clarity, because promising to avoid the scar on an arm with substantial excess would only lead to disappointment. Because it does not depend on pigment, radiofrequency is safe on darker skin.
Who it’s for
for the radiofrequency option, if you have localized fat with mild to moderate laxity and want to avoid a scar. For brachioplasty, if the excess skin is significant, typically after weight loss, and you accept the scar in exchange for the contour.
Who it’s not for
we do not operate with lymphedema of the limb, unstable weight, or if you smoke, because it compromises both retraction and healing. And if you expect an invisible scar with substantial excess skin, that result does not exist.
What to expect
- 01
general anesthesia with a regional block to control pain, lasting 2 to 6 hours depending on the areas treated.
- 02
We recommend one night of hospitalization to monitor you and manage pain properly.
- 03
Drains are placed in all our body contouring surgeries.
- 04
You will wear compression garments for 3 months, with first- and second-stage garments from a specialized Brazilian brand, changing stages as swelling subsides.
- 05
Your recovery is not just waiting: it includes an intensive physiotherapy protocol with lymphatic drainage, device-assisted therapy and dermatofunctional physiotherapy, with two clear goals, modulating fibrosis and getting the most from your skin’s retraction without leaving sequelae.
- 06
Hyperbaric chamber sessions are added to that.
- 07
Exercise at 4 to 6 weeks.
- 08
Final contour appears between 3 and 6 months, when swelling subsides and the skin finishes retracting.
Risks and what we tell you honestly
in the energy option, the specific risk is that retraction falls short and you end up needing surgery; we raise that beforehand, not afterward. There is also a risk of burn if technique or temperature monitoring are not correct. In brachioplasty, the scar is the central issue: it runs perpendicular to the tension lines of the arm’s skin and has the highest rate of abnormal scarring in body contouring, close to 10% in a meta-analysis of nearly 1,600 patients. There is also dehiscence in about 7%, seroma in 6% and recurrence of ptosis in about 8%. Anyone unwilling to accept that scar should not have the surgery.
Beyond aesthetics
in patients with significant weight loss, the literature suggests limb contouring produces functional as well as aesthetic improvement: better mobility, elimination of chafing and irritation from hanging skin, and better clothing fit. And there is something very concrete we hear often: regaining the ability to wear short sleeves without thinking about it.
Myth vs reality
Myth
“Arm liposuction will fix it.”
Reality
only if your problem is fat and your skin has good elasticity. If there is also laxity, lipo alone can leave the arm worse. That is why the intermediate radiofrequency option exists, and why, when skin truly is in excess, no energy will retract it. There, the scar is the price of a good result, and we prefer to tell you beforehand.
