Rhinoplasty in Mexico City

Form and function go together. That is why, when the case warrants it, we operate jointly with an ENT surgeon.

What it is and how it works

the nose is bone in its upper third and cartilage in the lower two thirds, covered by skin of variable thickness. Modifying it means working that three-dimensional structure with precision, because it is the center of your face and small changes produce large effects. And there is a principle that defines the long-term result: if structures are reduced without being rebuilt, the airway can collapse over the years. That is why a modern rhinoplasty is not only about removing, it is also about supporting.

What it treats, in detail

How we do it here

two things define us. First, joint work with the ENT surgeon in cases that warrant it. Many patients who come for aesthetic reasons also breathe poorly, and operating only on the shape without assessing the airway leaves the functional problem unresolved or worsens it over time. Working together allows both to be solved in the same procedure, with prior airway assessment. Second, choosing the technique according to your anatomy rather than trend. There are two philosophies: dorsal preservation, which lowers the dorsum while keeping the nasal roof, and structural, which reduces and rebuilds it. In direct comparison, aesthetic and functional results at 6 and 12 months are equivalent in well-selected patients. A recent systematic review focused on airway function confirms it: dorsal preservation maintains or improves nasal patency, with complication and revision rates below 5%, and without statistically significant differences from the structural technique in obstruction improvement. We perform a complete facial analysis, because the projection of your chin and cheeks changes the perceived size of your nose, and we document with standardized clinical photography.

Who it’s for

if something about your nose bothers you and you have realistic expectations about what your anatomy allows, or if you also breathe poorly. Complete facial growth.

Who it’s not for

if your expectations do not match your anatomy, we will tell you before operating, even if that means not operating. Also not if you use inhaled substances that damage the septum, or with body dysmorphic disorder, which in this surgery is an important contraindication.

What to expect

  1. 01

    general anesthesia, usually outpatient.

  2. 02

You will wear nasal packing for 24 to 48 hours, a splint for 2 weeks, and support tape until one month.

  3. 03

Swelling and bruising around the eyes largely resolve in 10 to 14 days, with social return at around two weeks and nasal congestion for several weeks more.

  4. 04

    Exercise at one month.

  5. 05

And something worth knowing from the start: the tip is the last thing to define, the result refines over a year, and if your skin is thick it can take longer.

Risks and what we tell you honestly

there can be dorsal irregularities, asymmetry, residual or recurrent hump, and obstruction if structures are weakened without being rebuilt. Revision exists: reported rates range from 2 to 4% on average and up to 7.9% in some series, and no technique eliminates it. About dorsal preservation, which is heavily promoted, we tell you what meta-analyses show: it produces fewer dorsal irregularities and higher short-term aesthetic satisfaction, but carries a higher risk of residual or recurrent hump than dorsal reduction. It is not universally better. And your skin rules: if it is thick, achievable definition is lower; if it is very thin, any irregularity shows.

Beyond aesthetics

here there are numbers, not impressions. A 2026 meta-analysis of 1,192 patients with sleep-disordered breathing evaluated functional rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty. The results: large improvement in nasal obstruction, and significant improvement in global sleep quality and in daytime functional status. Functional rhinoplasty reduces the nasal obstruction score by 43 to 50 points out of 100, a change patients feel. And we also tell you what that study did NOT demonstrate: the reduction in daytime sleepiness was moderate but did not reach statistical significance, and the authors note high heterogeneity between studies. In other words, we can support that it improves your breathing and your sleep quality; we cannot promise you will stop feeling sleepy during the day. That is the real functional component and the reason for working with ENT. Aesthetically, satisfaction is among the highest in facial surgery: in preservation rhinoplasty series, the outcomes scale exceeded 85 out of 100 in up to 90.3% of patients, and in one review it rose from 62 before to 91 after.

Myth vs reality

Myth

“Rhinoplasty is purely aesthetic.”

Reality

in many patients it is not. A significant proportion of those who consult about shape also have nasal obstruction, a deviated septum or valve collapse, and that is assessed beforehand. When present, it is corrected in the same surgery, together with the ENT surgeon, and the breathing benefit is measurable.

Book your consultation and we will assess both shape and breathing.
