Breast Lift with Implants in Mexico City
High-projection implants almost double the risk of reoperation in this surgery. That is why we choose conservatively here, and why the result lasts longer.
What it is and how it works
it is the only procedure that solves both things that usually happen together, the breast dropping and the breast emptying. In a single surgery we reposition the nipple and remove the excess skin, and we also place an implant to restore lost volume, especially in the upper pole. It is the surgery most patients need after pregnancy or weight loss, because rarely is only one thing missing.
What it treats, in detail
- A breast that has both dropped and emptied, typically postpartum or after weight loss.
- A nipple at or below the fold, with an empty upper pole.
- Restoring shape, position and volume in one surgery.
- Correcting position and volume asymmetry at the same time.
How we do it here
this surgery has one particularity that defines everything, and we prefer to explain it from the start. We are working with two opposing forces: the lift closes and tightens the skin, and the implant expands it from within. That is why planning matters more here than in any other breast surgery, and why the implant is chosen conservatively: the greater the volume, the greater the tension on skin we have just sutured. We mark you standing, measure the degree of descent and your skin quality, and from there define the scar pattern and the implant range your tissue tolerates. We use Divina simulation and sizers so you choose within that range. And if your skin is very compromised or the discrepancy is large, we will propose doing it in two stages: first the lift, then the implant. Yes, that means two surgeries, but it is the safe way to do it and the result holds better.
Who it’s for
if your breast dropped and also emptied, with the nipple at or below the fold. Stable weight, non-smoker, no immediate pregnancy plans, and accepting scars.
Who it’s not for
if you smoke, the risk of skin and nipple necrosis is significant and compounded by the combination, so it is reason to postpone. Also not during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection, or if you expect a large implant over poor-quality skin.
What to expect
- 01
general anesthesia with a regional block, outpatient surgery lasting 4 to 6 hours, with drains.
- 02
You will wear a postoperative bra day and night for the first month, and the second month at night only.
- 03
From day one we will ask you to do light walking and slow, controlled breast movement, because moving early helps.
- 04
And something that sets us apart: in all our breast surgeries we include a rapid recovery protocol with 5 hyperbaric chamber sessions and 5 individualized dermatofunctional physiotherapy sessions, because recovery is treated, not simply waited out.
- 05
The breast settles over 3 to 6 months: the shape at one month is not the final shape.
- 06
You can drive at 2 weeks and resume exercise between 6 and 8 weeks because of the implant.
- 07
Scars mature over 12 to 18 months.
Risks and what we tell you honestly
we give you the real numbers, because they explain our decisions. In the reference systematic review, covering 4,856 cases, the complication rate was 13.1% and the reoperation rate 10.7%, with recurrent ptosis the most frequent complication at 5.2%. For years combining both surgeries was considered especially risky; current literature qualifies that: with careful patient selection, outcomes are comparable to those of a primary breast augmentation, and recent series report complication and revision rates between 1.9% and 15.3%, similar to those of the separate procedures. What is well identified is what raises the risk, and it is three things: having had previous breast surgery, which multiplies the likelihood of complication or reoperation by 3.58; using high-projection implants, which multiplies it by 1.84; and smoking, which multiplies it by 2.46. That is why we choose conservative implants in this surgery, why we ask you to stop smoking, and why in cases of previous surgery or very compromised skin we propose two stages. The other risks are those of both surgeries: scars, changes in sensation, impact on breastfeeding, asymmetry, and those of the implant.
Beyond aesthetics
the documented benefits of both surgeries apply, and they are among the best in the specialty. From augmentation, improvements of almost 48 points in breast satisfaction, 38 in psychosocial well-being and 40 in sexual well-being, in a meta-analysis of more than 18,000 patients. From the lift, resolution of irritation in the fold and better bra and clothing fit.
Myth vs reality
Myth
“If I am having surgery anyway, I might as well get the largest implant possible.”
Reality
in this surgery it is exactly the opposite, and there are numbers behind it. High-projection implants are associated with almost double the risk of complication or reoperation. Every extra cubic centimeter is tension on freshly closed skin, and that is what makes the result drop sooner. Here, less implant and better planning lasts longer.
