Facial Profile and Contour in Mexico City

Before operating on your nose or your under-chin, we assess your chin. A poorly projected chin makes the nose look larger and the neck look angleless, even when both are normal.

What it is and how it works

three procedures that address the contour of the lower third and are often combined. Chin augmentation improves chin projection, with an implant or by repositioning your own bone. Submental liposuction removes fat beneath the chin to restore the neck angle. And buccal fat removal partially removes the cheek fat pad, a deep packet that does not change with weight, to slim the mid and lower thirds.

What it treats, in detail

How we do it here

the key is correctly identifying where the problem comes from, because the same appearance can have different causes. Your under-chin fullness can come from superficial fat, fat beneath the muscle, platysmal bands, descended glands, lax skin or a poorly projected chin, and liposuction only solves the first. The width of your face can come from subcutaneous fat, the buccal fat pad, the masseter muscle or bone, and only one is solved with buccal fat removal. That is why assessment defines the procedure. When there is mild to moderate neck skin laxity, we can add subdermal radiofrequency with QuantumRF in the same procedure so the skin retracts.

Who it’s for

chin augmentation, if your profile looks unbalanced or your jawline is poorly defined. Submental liposuction, if you have under-chin fat with good skin elasticity. Buccal fat removal, if you are young, slim, with good bone support, firm skin and a prominent buccal fat pad.

Who it’s not for

with buccal fat removal we are especially selective, and this matters: it is permanent and irreversible, and over the years the face naturally loses volume. In the wrong patient, it accelerates a hollow appearance and ages the face. If your face is already slim, if you have laxity, or if the width comes from bone or masseter, we will tell you no. With submental liposuction, if your skin lacks good elasticity or your fat sits beneath the muscle, it is not your procedure. And with chin augmentation, if your underlying issue is your bite, that belongs to orthognathic surgery.

What to expect

  1. 01

buccal fat removal is done in-office under local anesthesia and takes 2 hours; we will ask for a soft diet and purees for 5 days, no exercise for a week, and you return to normal life at one week.

  2. 02

Submental liposuction is done under local anesthesia or sedation and takes an hour and a half; you will wear a submental compression band continuously for one week and one more week at night only, and you resume exercise at 10 days.

  3. 03

Chin augmentation with an implant is relatively short; bony genioplasty is larger and done under general anesthesia.

  4. 04

In all of them there is swelling in the first days.

  5. 05

The final result appears between 2 and 6 months depending on the procedure.

Risks and what we tell you honestly

with buccal fat removal, the hardest error to correct is removing too much, because it leaves a cheek hollow that later requires fat grafting. That is why we are conservative and why we filter patients so carefully. With a chin implant, the device can shift or become infected, and in that case it must be removed; with genioplasty, numbness of the lower lip is frequent and can take months. With submental liposuction, irregularity or residual lax skin can remain if elasticity was not good.

Beyond aesthetics

these are aesthetic procedures and we present them as such. What does have a functional component is chin surgery when there is underlying malocclusion, but that belongs to orthognathic surgery and is referred.

Myth vs reality

Myth

“Buccal fat removal defines the jawline and slims the face.”

Reality

no. It acts only on the cheek, it does not define the jawline or slim the face overall. And it is irreversible: the fat removed does not come back. If your goal is jawline definition, there are better options, such as projecting the chin or treating the neck contour, and we will propose those first.
