Melasma and Dark Spot Laser in Mexico City

It is the first and only Q-switched laser FDA-cleared for melasma; in studies, the pigment score dropped by more than half.

What it is and how it works

Spectra is a laser that emits ultra-short pulses of energy, so fast they break up pigment (melanin) through an almost mechanical effect, with very little heat. That matters a lot: by not overheating, it lowers the risk of dark marks, which is why it is one of the few lasers we can use safely on darker skin. It also has a carbon mode, the Hollywood peel, that cleans the pore, controls oil and adds radiance.

What it treats, in detail

Who it’s for

anyone with melasma, spots or uneven tone, especially on darker skin where other lasers are riskier; and anyone wanting glow and finer pores with the Hollywood peel.

Who it’s not for

recent tan or sun, photosensitizing medications, active herpes or infection in the area, or pregnancy. And something we always safeguard: we do not treat any mole or suspicious spot without a diagnosis; we first rule out anything malignant.

What to expect

  1. 01

melasma is treated in a series, usually 6 to 12 sessions every 1 to 2 weeks, with maintenance every 3 to 6 months.

  2. 02

The Hollywood peel has almost no downtime and shows results from the first session.

  3. 03

For spot removal of a mark or tattoo, a crust forms and falls off in about a week.

  4. 04

    Strict sun protection always.

Risks and what we tell you honestly

melasma is not cured, it is controlled; it returns in many patients if you do not protect from the sun, so maintenance and sunscreen are part of the deal, not an extra. Too much energy can cause tiny spots of lightening, which is why we work conservatively. Effects are usually mild and temporary. At Aryx we have several technologies that overlap and are complementary; in your consultation we define which suits you best or whether combining them is better.

Myth vs reality

Myth

“Laser will make my darker skin more pigmented.”

Reality

that happens with the wrong device or energy. Spectra, with its ultra-short pulse, is actually one of the safest on darker skin; the risk of marks comes from misuse, which is why the device and who treats you matter so much.
